"Cars? You're almost two seasons old and have no idea what cars are?"
— Crowmuzzle to Hollowpaw
Crowmuzzle is a black tortoiseshell tom with white and odd colored eyes, ex-mate to Lambthroat and former prisoner of the Cloudchasers. Born as a soil in the prisoner camp, he survived through his connection to Lambthroat and became a worker, performing forced labor while learning the weaknesses of the camp.
Crowmuzzle and Lambthroat launch a nighttime attack on a Cloudchasers guard named Budtail, who is watching over the pit where prisoners are kept. Crowmuzzle distracts Budtail with a pathetic performance — going limp under his blows, emitting pitiful sounds — allowing Lambthroat to ambush him from behind. They work together to overpower the larger warrior, with Crowmuzzle grabbing Budtail's hind leg while Lambthroat tears open his throat.
After killing Budtail, they drag his body aside. Lambthroat then leans into the pit and pulls out a blinded, emaciated cat — Bearpaw, who had been imprisoned there. Lambthroat solemnly welcomes him home while Crowmuzzle watches, torn between relief and unease.
A disabled kittypet named Gourdy encounters Crowmuzzle outside his fence. He mocks his digging attempts and reveals they were once part of the Cloudchasers. When Gourdy desperately asks about Treepaw, Crowmuzzle tells him the group has moved to a barn beyond the lake and that he should hurry if he wants to find them.
Crowmuzzle is quiet, watchful, and deeply loyal. Years of survival taught him to observe before acting — he notices patrol schedules, guard rotations, the moments when no one is watching. He is patient where Lambthroat is impulsive, thoughtful where Lambthroat is fierce. Despite his calm exterior, he carries deep scars from the isolation period after the first rebellion, when he was separated from Lambthroat for moons. It took an enormous amount of strength for Crowmuzzle to go against Lambthroat. After the exile, he prefers to be alone and rarely starts conversations with other cats.
Lambthroat
Their bond began in kithood, in the prisoner camp. Crowmuzzle is the only cat Lambthroat truly trusts, and Lambthroat is the only cat Crowmuzzle would kill for. They balance each other — Crowmuzzle's patience tempers Lambthroat's fury; Lambthroat's vision gives Crowmuzzle purpose. But the balance is shifting. As Lambthroat grows more fanatical, Crowmuzzle grows more uncertain, though he would never say so aloud.
